LGBT Groups
Did Uncle Sam want you? Did you serve in the military either during peace time or war? If so, then the Zablocki Veterans Administration Medical Center (ZVAMC) would like to provide you with a safe environment in which to talk about your experiences as a lesbian, gay, transgender or bisexual veteran.
You may be eligible for VA health care programs if you served on active duty, have an honorable discharge from military service, and have a service-connected disability from the VA OR have income below the VA's annual means test levels.
Two support groups have formed to provide an opportunity for LGB and trangender veterans.
Gidget is for the transgender veterans to discuss transition and obstacles encoutered in transition and their experiences within the process.
Do Ask Do Tell talk about their experiences and are there to support one another in the joys and struggles of serving in a don't ask, don't tell environment.
There are no set topics in either group and all topics relating to the groups main agenda may be brought up by members.
The meetings will take place every other Tuesday at 5:30 pm at Zablocki Veterans Administration Medical Center, 5000 W. National Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53295.
For a schedule of the next meetings see below.
Those interested in the Gidget group must make an appointment to be seen by one of the facilitators prior to joining the group.
